Riley Brown was born with a neuro tube defect called Spina Bifida. He was born two weeks after his parents found out about his condition. Riley has always been a fighter but never more so then at birth, as he had to fight to stay alive. That drive continues as he faces many challenges and health issues to this day. Riley has had a total of 14 surgeries throughout his short life for many different reasons. He is expected to have many more in the years to come. Riley refuses to be defined by his circumstances and is a very active, high spirited and social 11 year old. Riley is the youngest member of the Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP REEL DEAL) youth fishing club and plans to fish the state qualifier this year at Big Hill. Riley has been fishing since he was three years old and started with a bobber and a worm. Riley has helped KHP REEL DEAL with the 2008 Veterans Day Parade in Newton and with Derby Summer Fest. His photograph also appeared in the Derby Reporter in an article about the event. Riley is also the 2009 KANSAS C.A.S.T. FOR KIDS FOUNDATION YOUTH SPOKESMAN and already this year has been very busy promoting Kansas C.A.S.T. Riley continues to look forward to his opportunity to further the mission of C.A.S.T. in Kansas.
